Jigsaw Cooperative Learning Activity

#1. You could use Jigsaw in the classroom with only five computers by setting up different groups. Lets say there is 25 students in the class, this way you could make five groups of five students. In each group every individual will be assigned a certain topic to learn and teach to the rest of their group members. So lets say one topic was finding the area of a triangle. Every student assigned this topic out of each group would get together to find the answer. This second family they are now working with each have one computer to share and find the answers with to report back to their main family. Because each topic family only has one computer, you can assign a leader in that second family to do the research with the help from the other students in that group. Then once they all agree on the information they report back to their main family and share the information with them.

#2. An advantage of this method would be that it gets the students more engaged and powered in their own individual group. It gives every student a responsibility to obtain a certain amount of information to report back. Also it lets people depend on you by working as a team and experiencing other methods of learning.

#3. A disadvantage of this method would be having all the students be fully engaged throughout the whole exercise. If one student didn't care then the rest of the group will suffer. So it is the teachers responsibility to not let this happen and find ways around this.

Google for Educators

#1. Three classroom tools i might want to use with my high school math students are Google Calendar, Google Groups, and Google Notebook

#2. With Google Calendar I would be able to set up individual calendars for every class period putting important dates of tests, quizzes, homework, or holidays. This way the students will be more organized and well prepared for the class upcoming class period. With Google Groups, I would set up one for each class and it would mainly play as a discussion board for students to ask questions work with each other and do there assignments together virtually through the computer. From there I can check their progress and determine if they are understanding whatever section we are going over. With Google Notebook I could set up lesson plans or test reviews and organize them into a orderly fashion onto the Notebook. This way I am more prepared for the class and I will keep my students more engaged because of it.

#3. One advantage of using Google Docs is getting your students more involved with other students by doing group work. With this you can access any website, PowerPoint or word document by putting them into Google Docs, then sharing it with the rest of their classmates. It keeps the students more involved during and after school.

ATA - The Assistive Technology Act

The Assistive Technology Act(ATA), is a law designated to help people of all ages and disabilities to help them along the way to live a more fitted and stress-free environment by using the source of technology. These people include senior citizens, toddlers, underdeveloped minds, injured patients and many more people. The goals are to help people to reach their fullest potential in work, school, house-hold, communication, independent life-style, and "achieve their dreams(ATAACESS.ORG)". Along with that, technology has become one of the most sufficient ways to involve economic activity. It also shows to be used just as much if not more for people involved in ATA, then the rest of the nation.
There is a YouTube video on the ATA website at (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2G1U6U3zh8), that demonstrates how this law is presented to a visual audience. For example, this video starts by showing how ATA helps senior citizens. Because as you get older, the weaker and more fragile you become, ATA has invented knew technology to help them with everyday situations and makes them feel more important and acknowledged in the world. ATA supports rubber jar openers, built up handles that are easier to grip, or cell phones with bigger accessible buttons. All of these technology tools make the senior citizen more confident with their old age.
I think that this law is very important to our society. Although i had no previous knowledge of ATA before this assignment, it has really opened up my eyes to different ways technology can twirl its way into just about everything. I strongly like that the main focus of this law is to help these people feel as if they aren't different from anyone else, to make everyone feel equal.
